Where to buy san francisco sourdough starter

I purchased the Sourdough starter after many failed attempts to get one going on my own. The starter worked perfectly and the instructions are clear. Having a great time learning about the variety of things to make with sourdough. I tried to do my own starter with no success. Eventually I decided to just buy the starter from this site, and it started working immediately.

I'm not an experienced bread maker, and my first loaves turned out fantastic! I've tried so many sourdough starters over the year, but this one is hands-down the best. I've been using it for a few months now and can honestly say, last week I made the best loaf of bread I have ever made, and that number is in the thousands.

I had no issues getting this starter activated and am now drowning in endless massive quantities of delicious tangy starter, which has gone into loaf bread, naan, waffles, cornbread, etc, etc. My only problem is just how much starter there is! It's tasty, no doubt. The San Francisco sourdough starter that I bought is working very well and I am happy with my purchase.

Named my starter Lucy. Lucy took about days to become real active. Kelley verified owner — November 20, This starter arrived and immediately after first feeding was bubbling away and smelled fantastic! Getting ready to bake my first loaf and the bubbles on the rise are amazing. I was never able to get my own starter to work in my kitchen. So happy! Susan verified owner — November 10, I fed my starter as soon as it arrived.

It was clearly active within a couple of hours, and by the next morning, it was quite bubbly. This was so inexpensive and easy! Thank you, Eric, for all the wonderful things you do for the bread-bakers of the world. Digitoes verified owner — July 9, I am loving this site and community. Thanks for a great product and all the information available here! Erin — March 21, Erin- February I am in Alberta Canada.

I received my sourdough breadtopia live starter on a Tuesday. I was able to make a wet dough and ferment it overnight and bake a sourdough rye the next morning. The loaf had beautiful oven spring, nice crumb and a surprising sour taste. This starter has so far never failed me. I have made sourdough in my bread maker and it excelled here too. I made sourdough spelt buns and shared with my neighbors and they raved about them.

This sourdough starter makes me feel like a professional baker. Thank you Eric for sharing your magnificent starter with me. Richard verified owner — February 20, Great product!

Had starter mailed to Canada in the middle of winter. Made pizza following your recipie and was great! Ray — February 2, Excellent starter and directions. Mike verified owner — October 5, This is a very healthy starter. It had no problems growing twice as big after following directions within the first 24 hours of arrival.

Great aroma and bubbly… This is almost like food hacks it is so easy. Margot verified owner — June 10, I got your basic starter last week as my husband wanted a San Francisco style starter.

I had been making it with a spelt starter from another and more expensive source…. Not going to maintain that starter anymore! I just took a mini loaf out of oven so will post that. Kathleen Morey verified owner — March 19, Received live starter yesterday at noon. Fed it immediately per package instructions.

Now continuing to feed and build enough to bake with. Looks bubbly and smells fabulous! Thank you, Breadtopia! Jennifer — February 5, I bought my live sourdough starter almost two years ago and it remains fantastic! This is a superior sourdough starter with that sour tang I crave. It has set my sourdough expectations higher, and I was disappointed on my last trip to San Fran with store bought bread. The starter is so hardy, I like to think of it as a jade-varietal. I can leave it in the fridge and forget about it for a few weeks, and then take it out, feed it a few times, and it comes bubbling vigorously back out of hibernation.

I am thrilled with this product, especially for the long-rise no knead bread in a covered cast iron pot. Every time I make it, I cannot believe how good it is or that I made it myself.

Looking forward to making the rye next. Sharon — February 2, Just this week my original mother sponge died, however for some reason a couple of months ago, for the first time I had split it and made a second mother sponge. I was looking online to see if I could find you in case this ever happens again and I am not prepared. Beautiful, hard-working starter.

This starter made my foray into sourdough SO much easier. Highly recommend. Sarah verified owner — January 14, Though it shipped from Breadtopia the next morning, it took 7 days to get here because of delays in ground shipping due to inclement weather. Upon arrival, I immediately opened it and followed the directions for adding the flour and water. The next morning it was about twice as big, but it was hard as a rock.

I realized my foolish mistake. I figured nothing ventured, nothing gained and decided to follow the directions for the second day adding more flour and water.

This time I covered it with plastic wrap and put it back in the proofing box. Within an hour, it had tripled in size. I just could not be more pleased! Brian verified owner — January 1, Ordered this live sourdough starter, and then unexpectedly had to leave town before it arrived. Unfortunately the starter arrived in an envelope that was overlooked in the pile of other mail, so when I got home it was smashed flat under a crush of magazines and junk mail.

Unlike the pretty plump bag in the web site photo, I found flattened mm-thick bag of mottled off yellow goo the consistency of hardened chewing gum run over by a truck. Gave it a go anyway … not much to lose. Too my great surprise now three days later I have a large happy bowl of bubbling sour dough.

Just baked and finished off a large loaf of sourdough bread …. Patti verified owner — December 17, Trish — August 9, The best! It already has a decent sour taste and the oven spring is very good. Thank You! Roger Hartwell — May 27, Great price, fast shipping. Solid Starter. Amazing bread. This starter is very active compared to others I have tried. Monika — February 7, Fantastic — I have received my started on Monday and baked my first bread this morning.

The results were great! Thank you so much. Thanks so much for great product! Hoobie — February 3, Wonderful livliness. I had bubbling starter a few hours after the first feeding. If you want to get started baking quickly, this is a great choice. Erika naegelin — December 4, This handy little multi-tasker comes in all of the breadmaker kits. Order One Now. An all-cotton towel is much more efficient for covering rising dough than plastic wrap--it won't stick to the dough and it's so much easier to put on and take off than that blasted plastic wrap that gets wrinkled or sticks to itself. And that's not even mentioning that cotton recycles itself in the washing machine--no plastic to throw away--or the fact that that's what my Grandma Nana used to cover her rising loaves of homemade light bread.

If you cook, you need this tool You will find yourself using it constantly for dividing your dough, lifting sticky dough from the counter, and cleaning up the flour that's left.

Truly a multi-tasking tool, I'm sure Alton would approve! I can't function with just one--I have three of them out in plain sight next to my chopping block. When you chop onions, just scoop them up with this handy blade and put them exactly where you want them. The blade is not sharp like a knife, but it is tapered and made of stainless steel, so I use it to chop all sorts of things instead of getting out a knife to do the little jobs.

Easy to clean in the dishwasher. Buy it in one of the BreadMaker's Kits and you'll pay even less! The Fabulous Bread Knife. San Francisco Sourdough Bread is so crusty you need a special bread knife to slice through the thick crust without damaging that wonderful crumb. And it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get it! The Unique Bamboo Starter Stirrer! San Francisco Sourdough Bread Starter is viscous and sticky and it's sometimes hard to mix.

This stirrer that my husband invented is sort of a cross between a whisk and a spoon and it works great for mixing all kinds of things You've probably not seen a stirrer like this one and you're gonna love it because it's useful and beautiful too!

Tell Me More Order one now! Have it Your way! If none of the Breadmaker's ToolKits I've put together gives you what you want, then you can put together your own custom kit and get exactly the tools you need and not pay for the ones you already have in your kitchen. Just go to the Make Your Own Toolkit Page and you'll find out how to get what you want, without paying for anything you don't want--especially extra freight charges. And always, if you have questions, just email me, and you'll get an answer--a promise I keep!

I must have half a dozen of these handy shakers in my kitchen cabinet--I keep them full of flour, powdered sugar, cornmeal, grated Parmesan, kosher salt, freshly ground in an extra coffee grinder black pepper, red pepper flakes or whatever.

They make it easy to shake a little of what you need in a controlled area. They're glass, not plastic, so they're pretty enough for the table too. Order Some Now. Plastic Dough Divider-Scraper. If you've baked with sourdough, you know how sticky and clingy it is--much, much more so than any other kind of dough.

This scraper is stiff and thin enough to scrape a bowl or a counter far better than any spatula--and it's flexible enough to curve to the shape of the bowl. It won't replace your spatulas--but this is one tool you're going to thank me for--I just know it. This handy little tool is also a multi-tasker.

Plus, you'll probably like the price too. What a deal! H aving the right tools for the task is essential to every artist or craftsman and baking that crusty San Francisco Sourdough Bread is no exception: In this baker's tool kit, you'll get the original San Francisco sourdough starter, the detailed instruction booklet and recipes, the Wire-Bail Jar for protecting your stash in the fridge, the crinkly all-cotton tea towel, the ultra-sharp razor knife for slashing your delicate risen dough, the pastry brush, the chrome-topped glass cornmeal shaker for coating your baking sheet or stone, the instant-read thermometer to determine when your wonderful sourdough bread is done, the amazingly efficient bowl scraper to help you clean up and a baker's dozen of the heavy-duty long bread bags.

Light, even dusting! Gentle finger pressure sifts flour over proofing baskets, working surfaces, cake pans--precisely where you want it! Quick, easy refills! Squeeze to openm, dredge to fill and you're ready to go. Keep sticky hands out of the flour bin. Rectangular Baking Stone. If you bak e any kind of bread--or even if you just bake frozen pizzas--you will love having a baking stone in your oven.

You don't need to bake directly on the stone to get fabulous results because this preheated stone will hold enough heat to transfer to your baking sheet for crisper crusts and more even baking. This Baking Stone is different--it isn't brittle and fragile like the others you'll find. It's reinforced with a patented blend of kiln-fired raw materials to give it strength and resistance to breakage.

Leave your baking stone in the oven all the time to help your oven maintain consistent temperatures no matter what you're baking. And it requires very little maintenance--just scraping up big spills. Be sure to measure your oven shelf carefully before you order. You'll need a one-inch margin on all sides of the baking stone so that the heat of the oven can circulate. I love these bread bags I couldn't give my long baguettes as gifts because I didn't have anything nice to package them in—now I do!

O rder Some Now. These bags are HUGE and very heavy-duty! You can use them for storing all kinds of foods in addition to your own yummy homemade bread in the freezer.
