Mensa what is the point




















We recommend getting involved in the Mensa community scene from the get-go. It's the quickest and most fun way to meet people and make new friends. It is an honour to be a member of Mensa. From the very first moment, my eyes have been sparkling: finally, I arrived in a place where people share similar thoughts, say similar puns, have similar associations like I have. Naturally, I also see the differences: different characters, attutudes and views - some of these I embrace, others I reject, but this makes the world complete.

In some countries, in addition to the national magazine you may receive lively local newsletters. In some countries Mensa sponsors a members-only credit card and insurance program.

There is also a program that aids traveling Mensans. There have been reports that job applications have been easier with Mensa membership on your CV — particularly if the hiring person is also a Mensan.

Mensans is a plural word, so I doubt she was trying to use singular, otherwise she would use Mensan. When taking tests to qualify for Mensa, Mensa only tells you if you passed or not. There isn't much of the latter two happening from what I can see on Mensa's News page , and in this internet age where anyone can find a group of likeminded individuals, surely the former is redundant? I wanted a way to broadcast my genius, yes, but not by membership of an organisation whose only real purpose is to allow members to broadcast their genius. This brings me to my second issue: just how accurate are these tests as a measure of intelligence? Even the narcissist in me refuses to believe that I'm more intelligent than 98 people in a random group of And if I am, why on earth aren't I a big-shot executive doing something smart rather than sitting cross-legged on my bedroom floor, merely writing about being smart?
